Fort Aguada was built by the Portuguese in the early 17th century Portuguese fort that was built by the Portuguese to defend themselves against any foreign attack and to control the entry of the intruders through River Mandovi.
With a magnificent 17th century fort which has now been converted into a prison. It is one of the best beaches in Goa with international class facilities for water-skiing, para-sailing, fishing, scuba-diving and wind-surfing.

What To Do

Wake up, have a light breakfast at one of the shacks on the beach. That being done, pick the Fort next, you can enjoy the sites of the Fort or you can refer to our little secret and do some exploring on your own. Next  you can stop at a prominent restaurant for lunch and spend some time there.  The afternoon would probably be too hot to go out so I’d suggest laying low in your room or wherever you’re staying or going to the beach for a swim. The evening would be a good time to try out the water sports at the beach or check out the lighthouse as it will be all lit up and look better than it would during the day.During the season, water sport activities are a plenty. Sinquerim beach is one of the few beaches where you can enjoy a lot of water sport activity. You can experience the thrills of jetskiing and parasailing. You can also enjoy other water sports facilities like swimming and snorkelling.
 Putting an end to a tiring day calls for a visit to one of the popular night clubs.

Along with Bogmalo, also in the Bardez district, Sinquerim is one of the few beaches where you can rent windsurfers, water skis, and other water toys without having to be a guest at a hotel. It's much cheaper to rent equipment from these places, but check the condition of the equipment and make sure lifejackets are provided; also check, if possible, with others on the beach to verify adequate supervision. Stretching in front of the Taj resorts, this small, sandy beach can get crowded with tourists and vendors.

Boat rides

Take a tour of the coastline around Sinquerim and discover hidden coves that were used by smugglers, see the massive profile of the Aguada Fort as would appear to potential sea-borne invaders and spot the occasional dolphin.
Banana boat ride

A very sly boat ride; this one twists and turns and finally topples it’s passengers right into the Arabian sea. Fear not; this is part of the adventure and trained staff quickly gather the surprised tourists and bring them back to shore safely.
Water scooters rentals

For the more adventurous lot, play Bond or bad and ride the waves on powerful water scooters. You can choose to ride solo or be chauffeured. Ride solo.

Strap on a parachute and sail into the sunset.

Fort Aguada

 

 

The fort derived its name from Portuguese word "Agua" meaning "Water". The fort was built by the Portuguese in 1612 AD to protect their interests in Goa against any enemy attack from sea. You will be surprised to find a spring inside the fort. This spring was used to provide water supply to the ships. The fort is currently the Central Jail and is one of Goa's largest prison.

 

The fortification of the fort lies along the shore and inside the fort lies a lighthouse tower that serves as a beacon to in coming ships. Majorly the lighthouse serves to guide the local trawlers to maintain their bearing within the Mandovi channel.A stunning feat of engineering,  the Aguada Fort was built by the Portuguese to protect Goa from a sea based attack. Wander it’s ruins and try and find the freshwater spring that fed the water reserves and gives this fort it’s name. In fact, the water storage capacity of this fort was among the largest in the East. Aguada Lighthouse

originally built in 1864, the Aguada lighthouse is the oldest in Asia. Today, the lighthouse complex still does a fine job doing what lighthouses should, pointing a bright light towards the sea to guide ships along the coastline. It attracts plenty of tourists too.

Sunburn Festival

Held between the 27th to the 29th of December, Sunburn is the largest music festival in Asia and among the top 10 on earth. It began in 2007 as an experimental electronic music event but has now grown into a monstrous commercial house music franchise. If you’re into massive crowds of tens of thousands dancing to the biggest names in commercial electronic music, this is the place to be. Tickets are expensive but the alcohol is cheap.

 

M.V. River Princess

Another sight to see is the ship that has run aground on the Sinquerim beach. The ship, a Merchant Vessel (MV) River Princess, a 240-meter (787 foot)-long iron-ore carrier belonging to M/s Salgaocar Mining Industries Ltd, went aground off the Candolim-Sinquerim coast of North Goa in June, 2000. To this date it still lies on the beach and has become a recognised landmark and a sight to see for the tourists.

Sinq, a recently opened club is extremely popular and just as expensive. In the village of Nerul, right behind Sinquerim, Love Passion Karma or LPK, one of India’s first superclubs, recently opened the gates to this sprawling work of art. The best months to visit Bars and Clubs in Sinquerim are December to February.

How To Reach

Sinquerim Beach in Goa is located very close to Panjim, the capital city of Goa. One can avail different road transport to visit this attractive beach. Sinquerim is located in the Bardez sub district of North Goa and is about 50 minutes by car from Dabolim Airport. This beautiful village is around 16 kms from the capital, Panaji and is bordered by Goa’s famous Candolim beach. The Calangute-Baga beach stretch is a few minutes.

 By Air

The only airport to reach Sinquerim is Dabolim airport, Goa's only major airport.

By Road

 Another means to access this beach is buses and local transport. The buses come in from the main bus stand at Panjim and generally takes about 30 minutes to commute. You can also avail a hired taxi or two wheeler as well.

 You can get to Sinquerim from Panaji by heading towards Calangute on the Chogm Road and taking a left at the ‘Dolphins’ circle in Calangute.

Close to Panaji, Sinquerim is a quiet, well-kept beach and, with some of Goa's most expensive resorts in the area—including the Vivanta by Taj-Fort Aguada and the Taj Holiday Village —it tends to be a destination for well-heeled local tourists and older international travelers. Having said that, pockets of vendors and tourists can gather around some of the more populist beachfront hotels. Visitors can try their hand at water sports such as windsurfing to snorkeling, and while the water isn't crystal clear, it is clean and makes for a lovely afternoon of paddling about; consistent waves make for good bodysurfing.
